To the south there is Miami and if you keep going you come to the southernmost point in the continental U.S. This string of islands, or keys a they are known, are connected by a series of bridges over the sea. At the very end is an island called Key West, which has a really cool laid back atmosphere. At this point, you will be closer to Havana in Cuba, than Miami back on the mainland.

On the west coast is Tampa, St, Pete and Clearwater. These are just over an hour from Orlando and are home to some fantastic beaches. In fact the Gulf of Mexico beaches, which run from Tampa down to Fort Myers and Naples are some of the best beaches in the country, They are known for the sand which is like icing sugar; super fine and very soft.

Fort Myers and Naples Area

Fort Myers and Naples, are in the southwest of Florida and actually butt up to the Everglades. The Everglades is a national park area made up of swamp land. It doesn’t sound too exciting, but this is where wild alligators live. You can take a tour on one of the flat bottomed airboats, which skim across the shallow waters. The guides know exactly where the alligators live, so you can get really close to them. The Everglades is also home to all kinds of reptiles, amphibians and birds. It is a really exciting day out.
